Can I choose my own doctor under workers’ compensation?
Your employer needs to provide you with a list of six or more physicians that have been approved for your healthcare plan. You are free to choose the doctor you prefer from your list. For the first 90 days after your injury, you must see a doctor from this list if you want workers’ compensation insurance to cover the cost.
At the end of the 90 day period, if you still need treatment for your injury, you may switch to a healthcare provider of your own choosing. This doctor will probably need to provide information about your continued care to your employer’s workers’ compensation insurance provider. Your employer has the right to ask you to be examined by one of their insurance provider’s doctors as long as you are receiving workers’ comp payments.
