When you think of jobs that involve a high degree of danger, taxi driver may not be at the top of your list. However, cab drivers say they are constantly at risk of injury or death from the complete strangers they are expected to transport. Although the vast majority of their passengers present no danger whatsoever, it only takes one unstable individual to put drivers in harm's way.

They were reminded of the fact last week, when a Syracuse taxi driver was shot by a passenger who didn't want to pay the fare. Driver Timothy Gordon, 29, was shot in the head and killed by the passenger. Denny DeJesus, 20, was in the cab with two other men after leaving a late-night party.

Experts say that the security measures installed in some cabs, including dividers and bullet-proof glass, lead to increased driver security. Unfortunately, Gordon's cab had neither. In addition, they suggest that drivers ask for cab fare upfront when working at night.

No matter your occupation, nearly every work site presents some level of danger. If
It only takes a second for an accident to happen. Because of this, it is very important for a work place to take all the necessary steps to prevent injuries. Although not all injuries are preventable, many of them can be prevented if a few small steps of precaution would have been taken in advance

One of the most important steps a work place can take to prevent accidents and injuries is to have good procedural policies and guidelines in place. With lax safety policies, the likelihood of injury increases dramatically. It is an employers responsibility to inform each employee of the saftety policie of the organization.

Workers compensation law varies from state to state. Philadelphia has its own set of laws that require an experienced individual to handle any case dealing with workers compensation. If you've been injured at work, you may be eligible to file a workers' compensation claim.
