22-year old Juan Baten was tragically killed in a repetitive motion workplace accident in Brooklyn, New York on Monday. Video cameras at the Tortilleria Chinantla factory captured the fatal accident on tape. In addition, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the NYPD are investigating the incident.
Officials report that Baten was working on processing dough at the tortilla factory by repetitively reaching into a dough-mixing machine to further speed up the mixing process. It is believed that when Baten reached into the machine, his arm was caught by one of the mixing blades and he was sucked in. Baten was crushed by the dough-mixing machine’s blades before he could get out or help could come.
Our utmost sympathies are with Baten’s family and friends.
