Often overlooked as a condition of workplace safety, heat exposure can lead to a variety of workplace accidents and serious injury. Furthermore, heat exposure can lead to dehydration, which further increases a worker’s risk of accident and injury.

Extreme heat and dehydration can cause a number of symptoms including dizziness, blurred vision, sweaty palms, fatigue and disorientation. All of these symptoms have the ability to negatively affect a worker’s performance and challenge their safety in both indoor and outdoor work environments.

Furthermore, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, heat cramps, and fainting all can lead to accidents and injuries on the job.

Research shows that about 80 percent of people wake up in the morning dehydrated. Experts say that only a 2 percent dehydration level causes blurred vision and only a 4 percent dehydration level causes a 23 percent delay in reaction time.

If you or someone you love has been the victim of a workplace accident where a workplace safety violation occurred, contact the Philadelphia workers’ compensation lawyers of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C. at 215-238-1130 today.

Last week, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited a Houston, Pennsylvania maintenance company, C & C Marine Maintenance Co., for several workplace safety violations. OSHA officials have fined the company $45,900.

Investigators determined the company committed 13 serious safety violations at their facility in Wellsburg. ”The lack of employee protections against workplace hazards is unacceptable. It is vital that the company address all of the identified hazards to ensure that employees have a safe and healthy work environment,” said the director of the OSHA Charleston office.

Serious violations are distinguished by the possibility that somebody could become seriously injured or killed as a result of the violation.

A type of factory accident that results in serious injuries for workers each year is plant explosions. Plant explosions are typically very sudden and cause serious injury and death to workers near the location of the explosion. The blast damage of some plant explosions has been enough to bring down entire factories and buildings.

Typically, the danger of plant explosions increases with whatever material or chemicals the plant is working with. Certain environments are more susceptible to explosions than others, and each factory needs to take a focus on safety for their particular situation. It is important for any company to take the appropriate steps to reduce the chance of a factory explosion, because of the consequences of an explosion could be catastrophic.
