The Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania recently ruled that an employee's workers' compensation benefits may be suspended or denied by the insurer if the individual does not agree to go into a detox program if the individual has become addicted to prescription medication. The ruling allowed for benefit providers to require an individual to go into treatment even if the treatment program does not address the individual's medical condition directly or if it does not help the person return to health.
