Swine Flu Concerns

Posted on April 29th, 2009 2 Comments

The outbreak of swine flu has many workers concerned in areas where reported cases have occurred.  Many organizations have already come out with the proper steps and individual should take to prevent the spread of the flu.

One of the big steps promoted that is if you are sick, don't show up to work.  This idea seems pretty simple,  but it just shows many of the underlying problems that many American workers have to deal with.  Many employees do not have proper sick-leave or sick-pay if an individual is out for legitimate reasons.  This gives the employee two options, either stay home and don't get paid (which could put the individuals financial stability in question), or show up to work sick and possibly spread your illness.  This type of problem is similar to the many problems that individuals injured on the job have to face.

Worker Injuries Can Last For Long Time

Posted on April 24th, 2009 2 Comments

Many injuries that a worker sustains on the job can have a dramatic impact on their life.  Some injuries are only minor, and normally heal with a little bit of time. Other injuries can lost for a long time.  These injuries are very serious,  because one work place related injury can change the individuals life for good.

Injuries that create a long-term disability are very serious.  They dramatically alter an individual's quality of life, and can also decrease the individual's ability to hold many jobs.  Because of this,  if an individual suffers an injury that turns into a long-turn disability,  they deserve compensation and care.  The immediate costs are huge, with medical bills and pain and suffering,  but the long term costs can be very large.  American workers deserve the best possible care in any situation.

Workers’ Compensation Premiums Likely to Rise

Posted on April 24th, 2009 1 Comment

Insurance companies across the United States are trying to deal with the recession.  As a part of this,  many of these companies have announced that they are going to begin increasing premiums.  With this increase in premiums,  it is likely that the cost of workers' compensation will rise.

This type of increase faces a lot of criticism.  It comes at a time when many businesses and families are struggling.  The increase can be seen as another nail in the coffin for many businesses.  Those supporting the rise in premiums state that insurance companies are forced to do this because the market conditions are extremely difficult right now.

Injuries Up, Compensation Down

Posted on April 20th, 2009 3 Comments

The number of work place injuries is still very high.  Improvements to safety have been made over the last few years that have made many jobs a lot safer than previously.  However,  the number of injuries that still happens to American workers is very high.

A startling problem with these injuries is that the number of workers compensation claims and pay-outs are very low in comparison to the total number of cases.  In many cases, individuals meet all the requirements and prerequisites for payout,  but the provider of the workers compensation will deny it.  Some individuals simply take this denying of payment as simply "the way it is".  This is not true.  If you are being denied workers compensation payments,  fight for the money that you are entitled to.

Posted on April 17th, 2009 1 Comment

Many civilian contract workers who have helped take part in project in Afghanistan and Iraq, are having another battle to face.  At home, the fight for care is very difficult.

Many returning civilians have suffered wounds from the war zone they were working in. At least 31,000 civilian workers have been injured in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001.

Many insurance companies are not giving these workers the proper care or treatment that they need.  One of the top insurance companies named is AIG.  Many workers have complained that AIG has failed to provide them adequate care.

Road Side Workers Have to Be Aware of Safety

Posted on April 10th, 2009 No Comments

Workers that take part in roadside work projects have a very important job.  They help to keep the infrastructure of our roads in order, and help the flow of commerce.

These workers have many different types of safety issues to be aware of.  The workers have to be safe with the tools and equipment that they handle.  Large tractors or pavement equipment are difficult to operate and require safety measures.  Other tools also require proper training to use.

One of the factors that are not in the hands of the workers is the safety of the vehicles on the road.  Workers have to be aware of possible drunk drivers, or out of control cars that could crash into them.
