Sleep Deprivation
Many people work very long hours at their job, or sometimes work multiple jobs. These hours can make people extremely tired, as they have very little time to relax and recharge away from the office. This exhaustion can be dangerous, both on the job and in the rest of life, as it can seriously affect performance of daily activities.
It is in the best interests and the safety of everyone involved for employees not to be exhausted while on the job. Not only are they more productive when they are well rested, but they will also be safer when they are more alert and awake. It is very dangerous to operate many of the machines and vehicles that go into a daily workplace even when in peak condition, much less when sleep deprived.
Some companies force workers to work long hours during a given week to keep their job. If this is the case, and the hours are long enough that the workers become sleep deprived, there will be an increased risk of injury and accidents. If a person is significantly sleep deprived because of long hours at work and they drive their car off the road or are in a bad accident, then they may potentially be entitled to some compensations from his or her employer.
