Ladder Injuries

Each day, countless employees head to vocations that require them to use ladders to perform their daily duties. Construction workers, phone and cable installers, roofers, repair-workers, and other occupations often require employees to climb ladders on a daily basis and put themselves at risk of injury.

Workers who are injured on the job may be eligible for compensation for their injuries and assistance with their recovery. Workers’ compensation may help provide financial and medical assistance to employees who are injured on the job and need help during the recovery process. If you have been involved in a ladder injury at work, contact the Pennsylvania workers’ compensation lawyers at the Law Offices of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C. at 610-667-7511.

Preventing Ladder Injuries

A few common ways to prevent ladder injuries are:

  • Make sure ladders have not sustained damage or significant wear-and-tear
  • Do not exceed the maximum weight allowance of the ladder
  • Single ladders or extension ladders should be placed at a 75 degree angle for climbing
  • Ensure all locking mechanisms are functioning correctly
  • Metal ladders should have proper gripping on the feet and the steps for adequate traction
  • Do not place ladders over or near doors that are in use or are unlocked
  • Do not allow employees to step on the top step or lean too far out from the center of the ladder
  • Ladders should be taken down when not in use. Do not leave ladders unattended

It is a good idea to have employees work in teams, and assign an employee to stabilize the ladder when in use.
