Head Trauma Leading to Agnosia

Head trauma is one of the most damaging injuries a worker can suffer, as subsequent brain damage can require lengthy rehabilitation and may even be permanent. Head injuries can potentially cause any number of brain disorders collectively known as agnosia. Disorders related to agnosia involve the loss of a person’s ability to understand or make sense of information collected by their sensory organs

If you have suffered a brain injury from an accident at work, you may be entitled to additional compensation to aid with your medical bills. To discuss your rights as an injured worker, contact the Philadelphia workers’ compensation attorneys of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C., by calling 215-238-1130 today.

What Is Agnosia?

A person essentially uses his or her entire body to collect information. However, the sensory organs, such as the eyes and ears, are responsible only for collecting an array of information, not processing it. This is the responsibility of the brain. With agnosia, brain damage can prevent a person from having the mental capacity to make sense of sensory information.

The following problems may result from agnosia:

  • Inability to identify colors
  • Inability to perceive colors at all
  • Inability to understand or produce language
  • Inability to recognize faces or voices

Unfortunately, losing these abilities can prove devastating for a person’s personal or professional goals.
