Exposure to Illness

There are many ways for illnesses to be transmitted. Unfortunately, a large number of quite serious viruses and sicknesses can be transmitted through the air or other easily passed methods. Many workers are in a very vulnerable position when it comes to exposure to illness, and a dangerous percentage of these are unaware or unprepared for such an encounter.

Many employees work in environments where they are exposed to serious illness every day. Most of these, though, are in hospitals and other similar places where they are prepared for these circumstances. They are properly trained and have all of the necessary safety equipment to protect themselves from the potentially lethal illnesses in the area.

The most dangerous problems occur when people are put in situations that they are not prepared to handle. Employees who are told that they have to work with or around people with a serious, communicable illness without being trained and lacking the proper equipment are in a terrible situation. They are at a much higher risk of becoming sick from these airborne illnesses and they would not be in a position to really protect themselves.

It is the responsibility of the employer to provide a safe work environment and toe quip the workers to be as safe as possible in the work situations that they are placed in.
