Crane Collapse
Most construction sites these days require the use of at least one crane. Many buildings necessitate the use of multiple cranes. These structures are massive, complex machines with many moving parts and very precise engineering specifications. As tall as the skyscrapers that are being built can be, cranes must be taller to take materials up to the top floors for construction.
Because of the delicate balance that exists in the way the crane is constructed, there is a risk of collapse. For many construction workers, this can pose a serious risk. Cranes are made to support heavy loads based on an even weight distribution down the long arm and through a sturdy base that is supposed to be anchored to the ground. If any part of this does not work correctly, or the operator does not handle a certain load in the correct way, the results can be disastrous.
Lifting a load that is too heavy can simply cause the crane to fall over. This can be a huge problem, as they often weigh many thousands of pounds and because they are so big, they will affect a large area when they collapse. Also, faulty construction or operation can result in a crane collapse that can cost the lives of construction workers.
